If you receive the link to your map from the Gmail application on an iPhone, clicking on the link to open the map will open a lightweight Safari that will not offer you the option of creating a shortcut on your iPhone desktop.

You then need to 'copy' the link received in your Gmail application by pressing and holding on the link, then open the Safari application and 'paste' the link to your card in the Safari address bar.
